Abstract: This article will present some issues on the robot technology for the application of industrial robots in Korea. Subjects on the entertainment robot and the service robot are aggressively developed by many groups. This paper will introduce the trend of development and application of robot technology in Korea for game and service areas as well as industrial applications.

"IT and Indusrial Robot"
Masato Tanaka, Senior Manager of Yaskawa Electric Corporation Robot Plant

Abstract:Recently the IT (Information Technology) affects greatly to many kinds of fields.

In the Industrial Robot field many activitys related to the IT are performed in Japan.

The ORiN project which is leaded by JARA is famous one, and the first step result was exhibited in the last IRS. It is the trial of standardization for API of the industrial robot to connect to the network. From the veiw point of Industrial Robot makers, how to use the infrastructure of IT effectively will be important. Remote monitoring, remote maintenance, etc are undertaken.

I will introduce the activity of the Orin project and the examples of API, and then some examples of Industrial Robot which are tried to use Internet.

Speaker Biography:
Mr. Masato Tanaka received the master degree of mechanical physics engineer from Tokyo Institute Technology, in 1974.
He entered Yaskawa Electric Co. , and had worked for the reserch at the Reserch Laboratory.
He had worked for the development of the industrial robot, Motoman in 1977.
He had been working for R&D of realtime system software for the industrial robot.
He was moved from the Reserch Laboratory to the Robot Plant in 1986.
He has been working for the development of the industrial robot controller, as senior manager from 1998.
