7. Active Vibration Control
7. Active Vibration Control
Active control of structural vibration continues to be a topic of extensive research activity. It is well known that the vibration modes of any structure largely determine the characteristics of the structure-borne noise it emits when excited. The phenomenon of noise radiation can be complicated as well as intriguing. Structure-borne noise is not always reduced, when vibration is suppressed, but sometimes even increased.
Vibration modes are classified into two categories; good modes with low radiation efficiency and bad modes with high radiation efficiency. This project is aimed at developing a distributed parameter smart sensor made of a PVDF film, which is able to sense only the combination of bad vibration modes. Once the smart sensor is implemented into a control system, the structure-borne noise can be always suppressed by reducing the smart sensor output.
