5. Predictive Diagnosis for Rolling Bearings
5. Predictive Diagnosis for Rolling Bearings
Social demand for the reliability of machinery has become greater from the standpoints of safety, economic efficiency and preservation of the environment, in an age when the usage of machinery has been spreading. In order to meet the demand, time based maintenance which has been used until now is insufficient and it is therefore essential to establish condition based maintenance, particularly predictive maintenance. It is very important to develop predictive diagnosis for rolling bearings because they are used in machinery much more than other machine elements and thus tend to cause a greater amount of trouble.
This research has been carried out to predict the occurrence of fatigue failure by observing acoustic emission (AE) during the testing of rolling bearings. The developed AE source location method for radial rolling bearings is very effective to identify signals due to failure from noise and to predict the occurrence of failure.
