7. Advanced Engine Systems
　　The aim of this study is to improve the efficiency and clean-liness of heat engines. The work includes: investigation of the use of LPG as a diesel fuel, optical measurement of the combustion process, application of catalytic and filter trap methods for reducing NOx emissions, development of techniques for activation of diffusion combustion using a high speed gas jet, measurement of particulate matter in emissions, and characterization of alternative fuels. Investigations into the build-up of NOx inside urban road tunnels are also in progress.
